The playground of the Peter Benoitschool in Neder-Over-Heembeek was given a makeover. During the summer holidays of 2017, Viabuild completed a modern playground in mastic asphalt. In just four weeks’ time, the old playground was demolished and completely renovated. Both the under layer and top layer were redeveloped. Permanent game patterns and sports field outlines were drawn on the mastic asphalt in different colours, using a thermoplastic process. The result: a modern and snazzy playground to the immense delight of all the schoolchildren.

Did you know: coloured mastic asphalt is often used for parking strips, bus lanes and bicycle paths. Mastic asphalt can be used in numerous applications. Its use for playgrounds is a new phenomenon. Viabuild is innovative, thinking out of the box. Coloured asphalt is as strong as the black, classic variant. During the production process of coloured asphalt, the black petroleum colour is purified. A different shade is added to the colourless granules. The range of available colours is particularly extensive.

Coloured asphalt layers have many advantages. They are more flexible in use, durable and maintenance-friendly than, for example, patterns with coloured pavers. Because there are no joints, subsidence is less likely with asphalt. Also, construction work can be carried out quicker, as less soil is excavated, resulting in a quick installation.
