Leuven finally has its new Parkweg Bridge. The bridge between the Philips-site and Park Abbey, built in 1941, was demolished in 2016 for security reasons. Viabuild Civil Engineering realized the 4.5 meter wide new Parkweg Bridge.

Safety, planning and timing were key factors. Working on and around railways tracks requires strict adherence to the many safety protocols and systems imposed by Infrabel. Most of the work could be carried out during day time. The works above the railway itself were realized during a few weekend nights. The bridge deck construction itself had to be carried out in several phases fully in line with predetermined time windows (closure of railway traffic). The works included the construction of new abutments and a concrete bridge deck.
